Michal Snunit was born Michal Lerner in 1940. Her birthplace was Kibbutz Ein Hahoresh, a special community in Israel. Her parents, who were from Belgium, helped to start this kibbutz.

Michal went on to study at Tel Aviv University. There, she focused on Hebrew literature and theater. She later married Zvi Elpeleg, who passed away in June 2015.
