Music Career
Joining the Misfits
Michale Graves was born in Dumont, New Jersey. When he was young, he was in a band called the Mopes. While recording a demo, he learned that the famous band, the Misfits, were looking for a new singer. To prepare for the audition, Graves listened to the band's classic albums. A year later, he officially became the new voice of the Misfits.
Graves was the lead singer for the Misfits from 1995 to 2000. During this time, he sang on the popular albums American Psycho and Famous Monsters. He also wrote some of the band's most well-known songs from that era, including "Dig Up Her Bones", "American Psycho", and "Saturday Night".
Even after leaving the band, Graves has sometimes performed with former Misfits members. In 2009, he joined Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein and Dr. Chud on stage to play several Misfits songs for a special performance.
Projects After the Misfits
After leaving the Misfits in 2000, Graves and drummer Dr. Chud started a new band called Graves. They released one album, Web of Dharma, and toured across the United States.
Later, Graves formed another band called Gotham Road. They released one album and toured before Graves decided to take a break from music to join the U.S. Marines. He was honorably discharged because of a back injury and soon returned to his music career.
Solo Work and Collaborations
As a solo artist, Michale Graves has released many albums. His first solo album was Punk Rock Is Dead in 2005. He has explored different music styles, from punk rock to folk and country music on albums like Vagabond and Wanderer.
He often uses the fundraising website Kickstarter to connect with his fans and fund his new albums. One of his most popular Kickstarter projects was Lost Skeleton Returns, which was a return to his horror punk roots.
Graves has also worked with many other musicians. For a time, he was the singer for Marky Ramone's Blitzkrieg, a band led by the former drummer of the legendary punk band, the Ramones. He has also recorded songs with the Russian punk band Night of Samhain and appeared as a guest vocalist on albums by other artists.
Political Views
In the early 2000s, Graves began sharing his political opinions publicly. He has identified himself as a libertarian.
In 2020, he showed his support for the Proud Boys, a political group. In January 2021, he traveled to Washington, D.C., to take part in rallies. He posted on social media about his plans to join other "fellow American patriots" in the capital.
Because of his support for the Proud Boys, some of his concerts were canceled by venues in 2025. This happened after people online raised concerns about his connection to the group.
