Michel Arrivé (born December 7, 1936 – died April 3, 2017) was a French writer and language expert. He wrote novels and short stories. He was also a professor who taught about language and how people use signs and symbols.

Early Life and Education

Michel Arrivé was born on December 7, 1936. This was in a town called Neuilly-sur-Seine, which is close to Paris, France. His father was an engineer, and his mother was a schoolteacher. During World War II, his family faced difficulties. Michel was raised by his relatives during that time.

He was a very bright student. He finished high school and earned his Baccalauréat when he was only 16 years old. He then went on to study at a famous school called Lycée Louis-le-Grand. By the age of 21, he had passed a special exam called the agrégation. This exam allowed him to become a highly qualified teacher in France.

His Career as a Teacher and Writer

Michel Arrivé started his career teaching in high schools. He taught in towns like Évreux and Pontoise. Later, he became an assistant at the University of Paris. He then taught linguistics at the University of Tours. Linguistics is the study of language. It looks at how languages work and how people use them.

In 1983, he became a professor at Paris Nanterre University. He taught linguistics and semiotics there. Semiotics is the study of signs and symbols and how they create meaning. He retired from teaching in 2006.

Throughout his career, Michel Arrivé studied and wrote about many important thinkers. These included Alfred Jarry, Sigmund Freud, Jacques Lacan, and Ferdinand de Saussure. These people were very important in the fields of language and psychology.
