Michele Ferrero (born April 26, 1925 – died February 14, 2015) was a very successful Italian businessman. He owned the famous chocolate company Ferrero SpA. This company became one of Europe's biggest sweet makers under his leadership. He grew it from a small bakery and café that his father started in Alba, Piedmont. One of his first big ideas was to add vegetable oil to a traditional hazelnut paste called gianduja. This made the super popular spread we know as Nutella.

Michele Ferrero was born on April 26, 1925, in a town called Dogliani, Italy. His father, Pietro Ferrero, was the person who first started the Ferrero company. His mother's name was Piera Cillario.
Building a Chocolate Empire
Michele Ferrero joined his family's company in 1949. He had many great ideas that helped the business grow huge. He was known for creating some of the world's most loved sweet treats.

Michele Ferrero married Maria Franca Fissolo in 1962. They had two sons, Giovanni and Pietro.
He was a very religious person and a strong Catholic. Every year, Michele Ferrero would visit the Lourdes shrine, which is a famous religious site. He also made sure that a statue of the Madonna (Mary, the mother of Jesus) was placed in every factory and office of his company.
Michele Ferrero passed away on February 14, 2015, at his home in Monte Carlo, Monaco. He was 89 years old.
