Micola: A Small Place with a Big Story

How Micola Began

Micola first started to grow in 1901. Back then, it was called Pokono. The community began when a railroad line was built through the area. Railroads were super important in those days because they helped people travel and moved goods from one place to another, which often led to new communities popping up along the tracks.

A year later, in 1902, a post office was opened in the community, but it was given the name Micola. This post office helped people send and receive letters and packages, connecting them to the outside world. It stayed open for many years, until 1926.

The name Micola is a bit special! It was created by combining parts of the last names of the people who originally owned the land where the community was built. Their names were Michie and Coleman, and by blending them together, they created the unique name Micola.
