The Micrixalus fuscus is a small frog also known as the dusky torrent frog or brown tropical frog. You can find it in the Western Ghats of India. These frogs live in thick forests, especially near fast-flowing streams.

What Does the Dusky Torrent Frog Look Like?
Male Micrixalus fuscus frogs are about 2.8 to 2.9 centimeters long from their snout to their rear end. Females are a bit bigger, measuring about 3.0 to 3.3 centimeters.
Special Features of Male Frogs
Male dusky torrent frogs have a few unique traits:
- They have a single vocal sac. This is a stretchy part of their throat that inflates when they call out.
- They have a white patch on their lower jaw.
- They have a clear nuptial pad on their first finger. This is a rough patch that helps them hold onto a female during mating.
Foot-Flagging Behavior
One cool thing about these frogs is their "foot-flagging" behavior. Males tap their back feet on the ground. Then, they stretch out their foot and shake it. They do this to get the attention of female frogs or to warn off other male frogs. Sometimes, male frogs even kick each other during fights!
Where Do Dusky Torrent Frogs Live?
These frogs love living in places with fast-moving streams. These streams are usually covered by a thick forest canopy, which means lots of trees overhead. This keeps the area cool and damp. You can find many of these frogs in the areas where they live.
