The Post Office and Its Names
Imagine a time before emails and phones! People relied on post offices to send and receive letters. Midway had its first post office open in February 1871. However, it didn't stay open for long, closing just seven years later in March 1878.
The post office re-opened in August 1886, but with a new name: Nyack. This new name didn't last for very long! In May 1887, the community decided to go back to its original name, Midway. The post office continued to serve the community until it closed permanently in 1912.
