Midway is a small, unincorporated community located in Spencer County, in the state of Indiana, United States. An unincorporated community means it's a place where people live together, but it doesn't have its own local government like a town or city. Instead, it's usually managed by the county.
History of Midway
Midway has a history that goes back to the early 1800s. A special office for sending and receiving mail, called a post office, was first set up in Midway in 1831. This post office helped people communicate and send letters for many years.
However, the post office eventually closed down in 1905. The community itself was officially planned and mapped out in 1854. This means that people started to organize and build homes and businesses in a more structured way around that time.
Geography of Midway
Midway is found in Grass Township. It is located about 5.7 miles (which is about 9.2 kilometers) to the west-southwest of another community called Chrisney. This area is part of the beautiful landscape of southern Indiana.
