About Miguel Barroso
Miguel Barroso was born in a town called Consuegra in 1538.
He was a student of a famous artist named Gaspar Becerra. Miguel Barroso became well-known for his painting and also for designing buildings. He worked for King Philip II at the amazing El Escorial palace and monastery. There, he painted several important artworks in the main cloister (a covered walkway). These paintings included The Resurrection, Christ appearing to the Apostles, The Descent of the Holy Ghost, and St. Paul preaching.
In 1589, King Philip II made him the official painter to the king. This was a very important job! Miguel Barroso created many paintings, and his designs were always very accurate. Some art experts, like Cean Bermudez, said that sometimes his paintings could have been stronger or had more contrast between light and shadow. However, they also noted that his colors were as beautiful as those used by the artist Federico Barocci, and his shapes were as graceful as those by Correggio.
Miguel Barroso passed away at El Escorial in 1590.
