Mikhail "Gorshok" Gorsheniov (Russian: Михаил "Горшок" Горшенёв; 1973–2013) was a famous Russian musician. He was the lead singer and a composer for the band Korol i Shut. This band played a unique style of music called horror punk and hard rock.

About Mikhail Gorsheniov

Mikhail Gorsheniov started his band in 1988 with his school friends. Soon after, he asked his friend Andrei Kniazev to join. Andrei became the second singer and wrote most of the song lyrics. The band's music mixed different styles like punk rock, hard rock, and gothic rock.

Korol i Shut became one of the most popular rock bands in Russia. They were very successful and well-known for their punk and hard rock sound. The band won many music awards in Russia. Mikhail also worked in theater and with other Russian rock musicians.

Mikhail was known for his special look on stage. For a long time, he had very few upper teeth. He had lost them by the age of 10. This made him look a bit like a vampire or a demon to some people. Later, Mikhail started using false teeth.

His Early Life

Mikhail Gorsheniov was born on August 7, 1973. He was born in a city called Pikalevo, in the Leningrad Region of Russia. His family moved often because of his father's job. They lived in many different places, mostly in the Far East.

When Mikhail was two years old, his younger brother, Alexei, was born. As a child, Mikhail wanted to join the military like his father. However, when he was 18, doctors found he had scoliosis. This meant he could not join the military.

When it was time for Mikhail to start first grade, his family lived near Khabarovsk. His parents decided to send him to live with his grandmother in the Leningrad region for school. Later, his father's job moved the family to Leningrad. Mikhail then moved from the regional school to a school in Leningrad. When he was younger, he learned boxing. He also took guitar lessons at home.

His Music Career

In 1988, Mikhail started a band with his classmates, Alexander Balunov and Alexander Shchigolev. They called the band "Kontora," which means "Bureau." In 1990, he invited Andrey Knyazev to join. Andrey wrote the lyrics and became the second singer. Because their songs often told fairy-tale stories, the band was first called "King of Jesters." Later, they changed it to "The King and the Jester," or "Korol i Shut."

After school, Mikhail went to a restoration school for three years. He left the school to focus on his music.

In 2005, Mikhail Gorsheniov released his first solo album. It was a tribute to another band called Brigade. Two songs from this album became very popular. Mikhail recorded this album to honor the Brigade band and its leader, Nikolai Mikhailov. Mikhail had enjoyed their concerts when he was younger.

Mikhail also worked on a music project in St. Petersburg called "Rock Group." He worked with other famous Russian musicians on this project. In 2006, he helped record a new version of a song called "Punk Rock Lessons." In 2008, he recorded a song called "Don't Crucify Me" with a former bandmate, Alexander Balunov.

In 2010, Mikhail became interested in theater. He had an idea to create a musical about a barber who was a maniac. This idea grew into the musical "TODD." All the musicians from Korol i Shut joined him in this project. This led to the band releasing two new albums based on the musical: "TODD. Act 1. Feast of Blood" and "TODD. Act 2. On the Edge."
