Playing for Clubs
Mikkel Beckmann started his professional football career when he joined Lyngby BK in 2004. A big moment for him at Lyngby was when the team moved up to the Danish Superliga in the 2007–08 season. He was known as a promising player there.
Beckmann played 105 matches for Lyngby and scored 20 goals. Even though he played well, Lyngby was moved down to the Danish 1st Division in 2008. He was especially good at playing in cold, icy weather. Sometimes, he would be brought into the game right after a snow break.
Time at Randers FC
On August 31, 2008, Beckmann signed a four-year contract with another Danish club, Randers FC. He played his first game for Randers on September 14, which ended in a 1–1 draw. However, he had a knee injury that kept him from playing for five matches.
He returned to play on November 16. By the winter break, Beckmann had helped his team by setting up three goals in five games. He was eager to show his full skills after his injury.
In his second season, Beckmann became a regular player in the starting team. At the winter break, Randers was in last place. But in the spring of 2010, Beckmann scored seven goals in 15 games. This helped Randers make an amazing comeback and stay in the Superliga.
He is the only player from Randers FC to have played for Denmark in a World Cup.
Playing for FC Nordsjælland
After the 2010–11 season, Randers was moved down to the 1st Division. Because of this, Beckmann was sold to Danish Cup winners FC Nordsjælland. He signed a three-year contract and was given the number 10 jersey.
In the next season, he helped FC Nordsjælland win the 2011–12 Danish Superliga. They also reached the group stages of the 2012–13 UEFA Champions League. Beckmann even scored a goal in a 1–1 home game against Juventus F.C.
Moving to APOEL
On January 8, 2013, Beckmann joined the Cypriot team APOEL F.C.. He signed a two-and-a-half-year contract. He scored his first goal for APOEL on March 3, 2013, in a league match. He scored the only goal of the game from far away.
At the end of that season, APOEL won the 2012–13 Cypriot First Division. This meant Beckmann became a champion for the second year in a row. Even though he had two years left on his contract, he left the club on July 11, 2013.
Joining IF Elfsborg
On August 8, 2013, it was announced that Beckmann had joined IF Elfsborg in Sweden. He signed a three-and-a-half-year contract as a free player. He took over the number 10 shirt from a previous striker.
Playing for Denmark
While playing for Lyngby, Beckmann was called to join the Denmark U21 national team in August 2004. However, he did not get to play in a match.
After helping Lyngby reach the Superliga, Beckmann was called up to the Denmark national team in January 2008. He played well and made his debut in a friendly match on February 2008. Denmark won 2–1 against Slovenia. He also played in another friendly game against the Czech Republic, which was a 1–1 draw. He was part of the Danish team until June 2008.
In May 2010, he was chosen for Denmark's team for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. His good performance for Randers in the spring of 2010 impressed the coach. Beckmann himself was surprised to be chosen.
Coaching Career
On November 22, 2015, Beckmann announced that he was stopping his professional football career. He had too much pain from several injuries. On January 9, 2019, Beckmann was named the new assistant coach for Lyngby BK.
On March 1, 2024, he took over as interim head coach for Lyngby after the previous coach left. He continued as an assistant coach after a new head coach was appointed two days later. Lyngby confirmed on May 28, 2025, that Beckmann would be leaving the club.
