Mikkel Beckmann's Club Career Highlights
Mikkel Beckmann began his professional football career when he joined Lyngby BK in 2004. A big moment for him and the club was when they were promoted to the Danish Superliga in the 2007–08 season.
Fans of Lyngby often called him and another talented player, Kim Aabech, "Aabeckman." Even though Beckmann played well, Lyngby was moved down to the Danish 1st Division in 2008. He played 105 matches for Lyngby and scored 20 goals. He was known for playing well even in snowy conditions.
Playing for Randers FC
On August 31, 2008, Beckmann signed a four-year contract with Randers FC, another Danish club. He played his first game for Randers on September 14, which ended in a 1–1 draw against AC Horsens.
He later had a knee injury that kept him from playing for five matches. He returned to the field on November 16. By the winter break, he had helped his team by setting up three goals in five games. Beckmann was eager to show his full skills after his injury.
In his second season, Beckmann became a regular player in the starting team. Randers was in last place at the winter break. However, in the spring of 2010, Beckmann scored seven goals in 15 games. This helped Randers make an amazing comeback and stay in the Superliga.
Joining FC Nordsjælland
In the 2010–11 season, Randers was moved down to the 1st Division. Because of this, Beckmann was sold to FC Nordsjælland, a team that had won the Danish Cup. He signed a three-year contract and was given the number 10 jersey.
The next season, he helped FC Nordsjælland win the 2011–12 Danish Superliga. This win allowed them to play in the group stages of the 2012–13 UEFA Champions League. Beckmann even scored a goal in a 1–1 home game against Juventus F.C..
Time with APOEL
On January 8, 2013, Beckmann moved to the Cypriot team APOEL F.C.. He signed a 2.5-year contract after leaving FC Nordsjælland. He scored his first goal for APOEL on March 3, 2013. This was in a league match against AEK Larnaca, where his goal was the only one in the game.
At the end of that season, APOEL won the 2012–13 Cypriot First Division. This meant Beckmann became a champion for the second year in a row. Even though he had two years left on his contract, he and the club agreed to end his contract on July 11, 2013.
Moving to IF Elfsborg
On August 8, 2013, it was announced that Beckmann had joined IF Elfsborg in Sweden. He signed a 3.5-year contract as a free agent. He took over the number 10 shirt from a previous striker.
Mikkel Beckmann's International Career
While playing for Lyngby, Beckmann was called to join the Denmark U21 national team in August 2004. However, he did not get to play in any matches.
After helping Lyngby reach the Superliga, Beckmann was chosen by Denmark national team manager Morten Olsen for some unofficial games in January 2008. He made a good impression. Olsen then included him in the team later that month to see how he would perform at an international level.
Beckmann played his first game for the national team in February 2008. It was a friendly match where Denmark won 2–1 against Slovenia. He also played in the next friendly game against the Czech Republic, which was a 1–1 draw. He was part of the Danish team until June 2008 but did not play any more games during that time.
In May 2010, he was included in Olsen's first list of 30 players for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. He was later chosen for the final 23-player squad. Olsen was impressed with how well Beckmann played for Randers in the spring of 2010. Beckmann himself was surprised to be chosen. On December 6, 2011, Beckmann was called up for Denmark's trip to Thailand in January.
