Mikkel Hansen (born October 22, 1987) is a famous Danish former professional handball player. He is known as one of the best handball players ever. Mikkel Hansen has won the award for the best player in the world, called the IHF World Player of the Year, three times. This is a record!

Mikkel Hansen's Amazing Career
Mikkel Hansen was chosen as the IHF World Player of the Year in 2011, 2015, and 2018. This award is given by the International Handball Federation.
He joined the club FC Barcelona Handbol in June 2008. Before that, he played for a Danish club called GOG. With GOG, he helped them win the Danish championship in 2007.
On June 2, 2010, he went back to Denmark to play for AG København. He played there for two years and won two championships. In 2012, his club closed down. Mikkel then joined a new French team, PSG Handball. He played for PSG for ten seasons. After that, he returned to Denmark to play for Aalborg Håndbold.
Mikkel Hansen has won many big titles with the Danish national team. He is an Olympic Champion, a World Champion, and a European Champion.
He won the Olympic gold medal in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. He also won the World Championship in 2019 in Denmark. In 2012, he won the European Championship in Serbia. He was also named the best left back player in that tournament.
In 2011, Mikkel was part of the Danish team that came in second place at the World Championships in Sweden. He scored the most goals in that tournament.
In 2019, he led Denmark to win their first-ever World Championship. He was the top scorer and the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament. Later that year, he was named the best player in the world for the third time.
In 2021, he won the World Championship again with Denmark. He was chosen as both the best left back and the MVP of the tournament.
At the 2020 Olympics, Denmark won a silver medal. Mikkel was again chosen as the best left back. He also scored the most goals with 61 goals. With these 61 goals, he broke the record for the most goals scored in one men's Olympic handball tournament. During the same Olympics, he also became the all-time top goal scorer in men's Olympic handball, with a total of 165 goals.
In April 2024, Mikkel Hansen announced that he would stop playing handball professionally in the summer.
Mikkel Hansen's Family Life
Mikkel Hansen's father, Flemming Hansen, was also a handball player. He played for the Danish national handball team. His father played 120 national team matches and scored 240 goals. He also played in the 1984 Summer Olympics.
Mikkel married Stephanie Gundelach in 2020. They have two sons. Their first son, Eddie Max, was born in January 2019. Their second son, Vince, was born in May 2021.
