Mikolas Josef (born October 4, 1995) is a talented singer and songwriter from the Czech Republic. He is also known simply as Mikolas. He used to be a model before becoming a full-time musician.
In 2018, Mikolas represented the Czech Republic at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018. He sang the song "Lie to Me". He finished in sixth place, which was the best result for the Czech Republic in Eurovision history at that time.

Early Life and Career Beginnings
Mikolas Josef was born in Prague, Czech Republic, on October 4, 1995. He comes from a family that loves music. His background includes Czech, Moravian, Austrian, German, and Italian roots. He has a brother named Karel and an older half-sister named Martina.
Mikolas started playing the guitar when he was only five years old. He grew up in Znojmo and a small village in southern Bohemia. Between 2006 and 2008, he studied at an art school, focusing on guitar.
In 2015, he graduated from the English College in Prague. When he was 17, he won a gold medal for acting from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. While studying, he worked as a model for big brands like Diesel and Prada. However, he later stopped modeling because he did not like some of the practices in the industry.
After modeling, Mikolas earned money by performing music on the streets, also known as busking. He played in many European cities like Prague, Oslo, and Vienna. During this time, he also cleaned a recording studio. This allowed him to use the studio to make his own music once a month when it was empty.
Music Career Highlights
Starting His Music Journey (2015-2018)
Mikolas Josef decided to become a professional musician. In 2015, he released his first song, "Hands Bloody," on his own. The next year, he released "Free," which became a top 15 hit in the Czech Republic. He also released "Believe (Hey Hey)" in 2016. After this, he moved to Vienna.
He was asked to represent the Czech Republic in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. The song offered was "My Turn", but he turned down the offer. He felt the song was not right for him.
In November 2017, Mikolas released "Lie to Me". This song was chosen to represent the Czech Republic in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon. "Lie to Me" won the national selection. It finished in sixth place at Eurovision, which was the best result for the Czech Republic at that time. By May 2020, "Lie to Me" had been streamed over 30 million times on Spotify. This made it the most-streamed Czech song on the platform.
After Eurovision: New Projects (2018-Present)
In April 2018, Mikolas signed a big international music deal with Sony Music and RCA Records. In October 2018, he released the song "Me Gusta". He was also featured in Forbes magazine as one of "18 inspiring people of 2018."
"Abu Dhabi" was released in February 2019. This was his last song released under Sony Music. He also appeared in advertisements for Tezenis underwear and Huawei that same month. In April 2019, Mikolas performed his first big concert called "My Name Is Mikolas." It was a sold-out show in Prague. He sang his released songs and some new ones, with six African singers joining him.
Mikolas and his family later started their own record label called Vivienne Records. "Acapella" was his first song released with this new label in May 2019. It became a huge success in the Czech Republic, reaching number one on the charts. It also did well in Poland, where it was certified gold in February 2021.
In November 2019, he released "Colorado". In December 2019, he started his "Closer to You Tour" in the Czech Republic. He released "Lalalalalalalalalala" in October 2020. In March 2023, he released "Boys Don't Cry".
Mikolas Josef released his first studio album, "One," on March 22, 2024.
