Mikoláš Josef, known as Mikolas, is a singer and songwriter from the Czech Republic. He was born on October 4, 1995. He used to be a model before becoming a full-time musician. In 2018, Mikolas represented his country in the Eurovision Song Contest. He sang his song "Lie to Me" in Lisbon, Portugal. He finished in sixth place, which was the best result for the Czech Republic at that time!

Early Life and Start of Career
Mikolas Josef was born in Prague on October 4, 1995. He comes from a family that loves music. His family has roots in the Czech Republic, Moravia, Austria, Germany, and Italy. He has a brother named Karel and an older half-sister named Martina. Mikolas started playing the guitar when he was only five years old. He grew up in Znojmo and a small village in southern Bohemia.
Between 2006 and 2008, he studied at an art school. He focused on playing the guitar there. Later, he went to a grammar school. In 2015, he finished his studies at the English College in Prague. When he was 17, he won a gold medal for acting. This award came from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts.
While he was studying, Mikolas also worked as a model. He did fashion shows and photoshoots for big brands. These included companies like Diesel, Replay, and Prada. However, he decided to stop modeling later on. He did not like some of the practices in the modeling industry.
After modeling, Mikolas earned money by playing music on the streets. This is called busking. He performed in many big European cities. These cities included Prague, Oslo, Zurich, Hamburg, and Vienna. During this time, he also cleaned a recording studio. This allowed him to use the studio once a month to make his own music.
Music Journey
First Songs and Eurovision Success (2015–2018)
Mikolas decided to become a professional musician. He released his first song, "Hands Bloody," by himself in 2015. The next year, he released "Free." This song became very popular in the Czech Republic, reaching the top 15. In the same year, he also released "Believe (Hey Hey)." After this, he moved to Vienna.
In 2017, Mikolas was asked to sing for the Eurovision Song Contest. The song offered was "My Turn." But he said no because he felt the song was not right for him.
In November 2017, Mikolas released his song "Lie to Me." He then announced that this song would compete to represent the Czech Republic in Eurovision 2018. "Lie to Me" won the national selection. It then represented the Czech Republic in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon.
At Eurovision, "Lie to Me" finished in sixth place. This was the best result ever for the Czech Republic in the contest! In May 2020, "Lie to Me" was streamed over 30 million times on Spotify. This made it the most-streamed Czech song on the platform.
After Eurovision and New Music (2018–Present)
In April 2018, Mikolas signed a big international music deal. He joined Sony Music and RCA Records. In October 2018, he released the song "Me Gusta." Later, Forbes magazine named him one of "18 inspiring people of 2018."
His song "Abu Dhabi" came out in February 2019. This was his last song released with Sony Music. That same month, he appeared in ads for Tezenis underwear and Huawei. In April 2019, Mikolas had his first big concert. It was called "My Name Is Mikolas" and sold out in Prague. He sang his released songs and some new ones. Six African singers joined him on stage.
Mikolas and his family then started their own music company. It is called Vivienne Records. "Acapella" was his first song released with this new company in May 2019. It became a huge hit in the Czech Republic, reaching number one! It also did well in Poland, where it was certified gold.
In November 2019, he released "Colorado." In December 2019, he started his "Closer to You Tour" in the Czech Republic. In October 2020, he released "Lalalalalalalalalala." His song "Boys Don't Cry" came out in March 2023.
In 2024, Mikolas Josef announced his first studio album. It is called "One" and was released on March 22, 2024.
