Milan Rakić (Serbian Cyrillic: Милан Ракић; born September 18, 1876 – died June 30, 1938) was a famous Serbian poet and diplomat. He was also a member of the Serbian Royal Academy, a very important group of smart people.

Milan Rakić was known for writing poems with beautiful rhythm and rhyme. He was a perfectionist, meaning he worked very hard to make his poems just right. Because of this, he only published two main collections of his poems during his lifetime. Some of his most famous poems include An Honest Song, A Desperate Song, Jefimija, Simonida, and At Gazi-Mestan.

Growing Up and Learning

Milan Rakić was born in Belgrade on September 18, 1876. His father, Mita Rakić, was an important person who worked as Serbia's Minister of Finance. This means he helped manage the country's money. Milan's mother, Ana, was the daughter of another famous Serbian writer, Milan Milićević.

Milan went to elementary school and high school in Belgrade. Later, he went to law school in Paris, France. While in Paris, he was inspired by French poets. He and his friend, Jovan Dučić, admired French culture. After finishing his studies, Milan Rakić returned to Belgrade. He became a diplomat, which means he worked for the Serbian government (and later the Yugoslav government) to represent his country in other parts of the world. He continued this important job almost until he passed away.

Family Life

Milan Rakić had a sister named Ljubica, who married a man named Milan Grol. Milan Rakić's wife, Milica, was the daughter of Ljubomir Kovačević. He was a well-known Serbian historian and politician.

Later Years and Passing

Milan Rakić passed away on June 30, 1938, in Zagreb. He was buried in the Belgrade New Cemetery.
