Millbrook was once a small village in Wake County, North Carolina, United States. It was located where Wake Forest Road and Main Street met. Today, that area is part of East Millbrook Road.
What Happened to Millbrook?
Millbrook was a separate village for many years. However, the nearby city of Raleigh grew very quickly. Starting in the 1970s, Raleigh expanded its borders. This growth meant that Raleigh eventually surrounded and absorbed the village of Millbrook.
Raleigh's Growth
Cities often grow by expanding their boundaries. This process is called annexation. When a larger city annexes a smaller area, the smaller area becomes part of the bigger city. This is what happened to Millbrook. It became a neighborhood within Raleigh.
Millbrook's Legacy
Even though Millbrook is no longer a separate village, its name lives on. Millbrook High School in Raleigh is named after the former village. The school is located in the very area that used to be Millbrook. This helps keep the history of the old village alive.
