Millennium Link facts for kids
The Millennium Link was a huge engineering project in Scotland. It reconnected two important canals: the Union Canal and the Forth & Clyde Canal. These canals used to be joined by many locks, which are like water elevators for boats. The Millennium Link project replaced these old locks with an amazing new boat lift called the Falkirk Wheel.
This big project officially started in October 1994. It received a grant of £32 million from the Millennium Commission, which helped pay for it. The total cost of the entire project was £78 million. Work on the ground began in 1999.
Working Together: The Millennium Link Project
Many different groups and organizations worked together to make the Millennium Link happen. These included local councils, national organizations, and even groups of people who love canals. Their teamwork helped bring this incredible engineering feat to life.
