History of Miller Park

Miller Park was once known as the "Pride of North Omaha." It was created in 1891. Before it became a park, there were plans for a big event called the Trans-Mississippi Exposition to be held there. This event was like a huge fair to show off new ideas and products.

Who Was George L. Miller?

The park is named after George L. Miller. He was a very important person in Omaha. He was the first president of the group that managed the city's parks. Mr. Miller was also the first doctor in Omaha. He owned a lot of land in the city and was involved in politics in Nebraska.

How the Park Was Created

The City of Omaha bought the land for the park in 1891. They bought it from the Parker family using special funds. In 1892, a road called Omaha's Prettiest Mile Boulevard was built. This road connected Downtown Omaha all the way to Miller Park. A famous landscape architect named H.W.S. Cleveland designed this road system and the park itself. A landscape architect is someone who plans and designs outdoor spaces like parks and gardens.

Miller Park Pavilion

The Miller Park Pavilion is a special building in the park. It has three stories and a covered porch that wraps all the way around it. The porch has strong brick pillars and a wooden railing. The building looks a bit like a fancy French castle, with two pointy A-frame sections connected by a middle part. It's a great place to gather or relax.

What Miller Park Offers Today

Today, Miller Park is still a wonderful place for everyone to enjoy. It covers about 79 acres (320,000 m2) of land. The park has a beautiful lake and lovely plants and trees.
