The Millers River is a small but important river located in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Rhode Island. It flows for about 3 kilometers (2 miles). An interesting fact about the Millers River is that it has no dams along its entire length. This means its water flows freely from its source to where it joins another body of water.

Where Does the River Flow?

The Millers River begins its journey in an unnamed pond, which is now often called Friars' Cirque. This pond is found near Bear Hill Road in Cumberland. From there, the river flows straight south. It eventually meets and joins with another stream called Abbott Run at a place known as Robin Hollow Pond. This meeting point is called a "confluence."

Bridges and Crossings

A "crossing" is simply a place where something, like a road or a path, goes over the river. Here is a list of the main crossings over the Millers River. The list starts from where the river begins and moves downstream towards where it ends.

  • In the town of Cumberland, you can find these crossings:
    • Bear Hill Road
    • Oakledge Road
    • Curran Road

River Branches and Streams

The Millers River does not have any officially named "tributaries." A tributary is a smaller stream or river that flows into a larger one. However, many smaller, unnamed streams flow into the Millers River, helping to feed it with water. These small streams are still very important for the river's health and water levels.
