A Look Back at Millport's History
How Millport Got Its Name
Millport got its start a long time ago. In 1858, a post office opened there. A post office was very important back then. It helped people send and receive letters and packages. This was how they stayed connected. The community was named "Millport" because there was a watermill nearby. A watermill used the power of flowing water. It helped grind grain into flour. This was a vital service for farmers in the area. The post office stayed open until 1901.
