Milltown's Story
A Look at Milltown's Past
Milltown started its life with a different name: Riverside. It began to grow in 1886. This was around the same time a big mill was built nearby. The mill was very important for the area.
Unlike its neighbor, Bonner, Milltown grew in a different way. Bonner was a "company town." This meant the mill company owned the stores and houses there. They provided housing for managers and supervisors.
Milltown, however, grew more naturally. It formed about half a mile up the river. This community became home to the mill workers. Other businesses that supported the mill and its workers also set up shop here.
