Millwood, Missouri facts for kids
Millwood is a small, quiet place in Lincoln County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's managed by the county.
The Story of Millwood's Name
Millwood got its start a long time ago. A post office, which is where people send and receive mail, opened there in 1842. It stayed open for many years, until 1903.
The community was named after a person named William Millward. He was a congressman from Pennsylvania. A congressman is someone who is elected to represent people in the United States Congress, helping to make laws for the country. It seems there was a small mistake when the name was first written down for the post office. The name "Millward" was accidentally spelled "Millwood," and that spelling stuck!
