Mineola (sometimes spelled Minieola) is a small place in Howard County, Arkansas, in the United States. It is known as an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government.
About Mineola
Mineola is located in the southwestern part of Arkansas. It is a quiet community where people live and work. Like many small communities, it doesn't have its own mayor or town council. Instead, it is part of the larger Howard County.
The 2011 Tornado Event
On April 24, 2011, a tornado touched down near Mineola. This tornado was rated an EF1. An EF1 tornado is considered a weak tornado, but it can still cause damage. It traveled from a nearby place called Umpire towards Mineola.
Tornado Path and Damage
The tornado moved alongside Arkansas Highway 84. As it passed through, it damaged a few buildings and structures in the area. Luckily, an EF1 tornado usually causes only minor damage, like breaking windows or tearing off parts of roofs.
Part of a Larger Storm System
This tornado was part of a period of very active weather. There were many tornadoes across the region during April 2011. The Mineola tornado happened just before a much larger and more powerful series of storms known as the 2011 Super Outbreak. The Super Outbreak began on April 25, the day after the Mineola tornado.
