The Ministry of Labour & Employment is a very important part of the Government of India. It's like a special team that makes sure rules for workers are followed and that workers have social security. Social security helps people when they can't work, like if they get sick or retire.
The Ministry's main goal is to create safe and fair workplaces. This helps people do their best work and be more productive. They also used to help people learn new skills and find jobs. However, since 2014, another group called the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship now handles teaching people skills like industrial training and apprenticeships.
In 2015, the Ministry launched the National Career Service portal. This online tool helps connect people looking for jobs with companies that have job openings. In 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, they also introduced the E-Shram Card. This card helps workers in unofficial jobs get social and financial support.
