Minnie Warren (born Huldah Pierce Warren Bump on June 2, 1849 – died July 23, 1878) was a famous American entertainer. She was known for her small size, meaning her body parts were in proportion, just smaller than average. Minnie worked with the well-known showman P. T. Barnum. Her sister, Lavinia Warren, was married to another famous performer, General Tom Thumb. Minnie and Lavinia were very popular in the 1860s. They even met President Abraham Lincoln, and this meeting was reported in newspapers!
Minnie's Early Life
Minnie Warren was born in Middleborough, Massachusetts. Her parents were Huldah Pierce Warren and James Sullivan Bump. Minnie came from a respected family that had lived in the area for a long time.
Both Minnie and her sister Lavinia were born at a normal weight. However, they stopped growing early in their lives. Their other brothers and sisters grew to a regular height.
Her Entertainment Career
Minnie Warren was not only famous for her small size, but she was also a talented singer. She performed for audiences and became quite well-known.
Minnie married Edmund Newell, who was also a performer of small stature. He also worked for P. T. Barnum, just like Minnie and her sister.
Later Life and Passing
Minnie Warren passed away on July 23, 1878. She died after giving birth to a baby girl. Sadly, her baby, who weighed 6 pounds, also passed away a few hours later.
Minnie Warren is buried in Nemasket Hill Cemetery in Middleborough, Massachusetts.
