Beaches and Natural Landmarks
Minot is home to two main beaches. The first is North Scituate Beach, which is the southernmost beach in the area. To its south, you'll find Egypt Beach, which is part of the Egypt section of Scituate. North of North Scituate Beach is the second beach, simply called Minot Beach.
Minot Beach is special because of its large, unique rock formations. These are known as Well Rock and Bar Rock.
Well Rock
Well Rock got its name because it used to have an open channel, like a "well," running from its bottom to its top. When the tides were just right, seawater would flow into the lower opening. It would then spout out through the top, making the rock look a bit like a whale blowing water! Over time, more and more sand has built up around the base of Well Rock, which has made its "well" less active.
Bar Rock
Bar Rock is another interesting landmark. Sometimes, when the tides were very low, a sand and gravel bar would appear. This bar stretched about 100 yards out to the rock from the shore. Local people would use this natural "bar" to walk out to the rock. They would even paint things like high school graduation years on the side of the rock facing the shore. Like Well Rock, Bar Rock has also changed over the years. More sand has built up on the beach, making it less remote than it once was.

Recent Events
On the evening of March 24, 2023, a large fire started on Glades Road in Minot. The fire quickly spread and affected eight homes located right on the beachfront. Five of these homes were badly damaged, and one had to be taken down the very next day because of how much damage it had. Firefighters from eight different fire departments worked together to put out the blaze. It took until the next day to fully extinguish the fire. Early ideas about how the fire started suggested it might have begun in a dumpster near a condo building.
