After a year, she moved to Rome, Italy, where she wrote her very first novel. She has also lived in other countries like Libya, Saudi Arabia, and Japan.

From 1979 to 1999, she was married to an artist and teacher named Michael Miller. They have one daughter, Rebecca, who was born in 1981. Miranda is now married to a musician named Gordon St John Clarke, and they live in North London.
