Miren Agur Meabe Plaza (born in 1962) is a famous writer from the Basque Country in Spain. She writes many types of books, including poetry, stories for adults, and especially books for children and young adults.
In 2021, Miren Agur Meabe made history. She was the first writer ever to win the National Poetry Award from the Spanish Ministry of Culture for a book written in the Basque language. This was a very important moment for Basque literature!

Miren Agur Meabe was born on October 7, 1962. Her hometown is Lekeitio, a beautiful place in Spain.
She went to college to study teaching. She also studied Basque philology, which is about the Basque language and its literature. For a while, she worked as a teacher in the city of Bilbao.
Her Writing Journey
Before becoming a full-time writer, Miren Agur Meabe worked in publishing. She was in charge of the Basque office for a publishing company called Giltza-Edebé. This job helped her learn a lot about books.
Later, she decided to focus only on writing. She loves to write different kinds of stories. She writes beautiful poems and exciting novels for adults. But she is especially known for her books for children and young adults.
Awards and Recognition

Some of her poetry books have won the Premio de la Crítica award. These include Azalaren kodea (in 2001) and Bitsa eskuetan (in 2011).
