Priestess Miriam Chamani was born on September 10, 1943. Her birth name was Mary Robin Adams. She was born in Jackson, Mississippi. Miriam Chamani is a special kind of spiritual leader. She is known as a Mambo, which means a mother or priestess. She also helped start the New Orleans Voodoo Spiritual Temple.

About Miriam Chamani

Miriam Chamani grew up in Mississippi. She says that she has had special visions since she was a child. When she was eleven, she became a Christian. She would often go by herself to pray and talk to spirits.

In 1975, she lived in New York and then Chicago. She became interested in the Spiritual church. This led her to leave the Baptist faith she grew up with.

In 1982, Chamani became a bishop. This was in the "Angel Angel All Nations Spiritual Church." In 1989, she met Oswan Chamani. They got married in 1990. Together, they started the New Orleans Voodoo Spiritual Temple.

After Oswan Chamani passed away in 1995, Miriam continued their work. She kept alive his traditions from Belizean Vodou. She also continued her own spiritual practices. She welcomes all people, no matter their background or beliefs. She is now married to Allen Villeneuve.

The New Orleans Voodoo Spiritual Temple was founded in 1990. Priest Oswan Chamani and Miriam Chamani started it together. The Temple is located in the French Quarter of New Orleans. It is right next to Congo Square. The rituals done at the Temple are connected to those from Congo Square. Famous figures like Marie Laveau and Doctor John performed rituals there.
