Mischief City is a fun Canadian cartoon show for kids. It's based on a book by Tim Wynne-Jones. The show follows the exciting adventures of an eight-year-old boy named Winchell Adams. He gets to visit a super unusual place called Mischief City!

In this fantasy world, Winchell teams up with Maxine, another eight-year-old, and her two friendly monsters, Hey Hey and Mr. Cube. Together, they often face strange and funny problems. These can be anything from wild bathtub races to stopping a meteor made of peas from hitting the planet! Many of these tricky situations happen because of Maxine's older brother, Duane, who loves to cause trouble. The show first aired on January 4, 2005.

What's the Story About?

Each episode of Mischief City usually follows a similar pattern. It starts at Winchell's house, where he's dealing with a small problem in his real life. Maybe his little sister took his sea chimps, or he feels really small. But before he can fix it, he's suddenly transported to the amazing fantasy world of Mischief City!

As soon as he arrives, Maxine and her two monsters, Hey Hey and Mr. Cube, greet him. Maxine often tells Winchell about a new problem or event happening in Mischief City. This leads the group on a new adventure! Once their adventure in Mischief City is over, Winchell returns to his real world. He then finds a way to solve the problem he had at the beginning.

Meet the Characters

Winchell Adams

Winchell is an eight-year-old boy with red hair and freckles. He wears a yellow striped shirt. He is the main character of the show. Winchell constantly travels between his real world and the fantasy world of Mischief City. This means he has to solve problems in both places! He often comes up with creative solutions for the challenges in Mischief City. He even seems to know more about this fantasy world than its own residents sometimes!

Maxine

Maxine is an eight-year-old girl who lives in Mischief City. She wears big purple glasses and an orange shirt. Her hair is tied into ponytails that can spin like helicopter blades, letting her fly! Maxine is Winchell's main friend in the series. She usually tells him what's going on in Mischief City when he arrives. She also takes care of her two monster friends, Hey Hey and Mr. Cube. Maxine has an older brother named Duane, who is often the cause of trouble.

Hey Hey

Hey Hey is a green monster with a pear-shaped body. He has horns that point downwards and a large nose. He's not very smart and doesn't speak clearly. Hey Hey often makes things funny because of his silly actions. He is usually with his close friend, Mr. Cube. Maxine is their owner, but she treats them like equals and good friends.

Mr. Cube

Mr. Cube is a red monster with a cube-shaped body. He has horns that point upwards and no nose. Like Hey Hey, he's also not very smart. But he speaks a bit more clearly. Mr. Cube also adds humor through his silly actions and is always with Hey Hey. They are very close, like brothers, though it's not clear if they are actually related.

Duane

Duane is Maxine's older brother and often the bad guy in the show. He is greedy, selfish, and loves to be in charge. Duane causes a lot of problems in Mischief City. Because of this, he doesn't have many friends. Maxine, her monsters, and Winchell all dislike his troublesome ways.

Other Characters

  • Clio (voiced by Annick Obonsawin) – Winchell's baby sister.
  • Mrs. Adams (voiced by Linda Ballantyne) – Winchell's mother.
  • Mr. Adams (voiced by Peter Keleghan) – Winchell's father.
  • Mr. Square (voiced by Frank Welker) – Duane's monster dog.

Episodes Overview

Mischief City has 2 seasons and a total of 26 episodes. Each episode is about 11 minutes long. The show aired on the YTV channel. The adventures in the show are always unique and full of surprises. For example, in one episode, Hey Hey and Mr. Cube have a disagreement and need to find new partners for bathtub races. In another, Winchell becomes a superhero to help his friends. The group often faces challenges created by Duane, like when he tries to become mayor or claim a treehouse for himself.
