Tim Wynne-Jones, OC (born 12 August 1948) is a famous English-Canadian author. He writes many kinds of books, including exciting stories for kids and young adults, and even picture books for younger children. He has also written songs for the TV show Fraggle Rock and even a children's musical!

In 2012, he was chosen to represent Canada for a big international award called the Hans Christian Andersen Medal. This award celebrates authors who have made a great impact on children's literature around the world.

Biography

Tim Wynne-Jones was born in England on August 12, 1948. When he was about four years old, in 1952, his family moved to Canada. He grew up in different parts of Canada, like British Columbia and Ontario. Today, he lives in a town called Perth, Ontario.

He went to the University of Waterloo and Yale University for his education. Before that, he went to Ridgemont High School in Ottawa, Ontario. He also sang in the choir at St Matthew's Anglican Church and was even the main singer for a while. Today, he teaches writing to students at Vermont College of Fine Arts.

Writing Career

Tim Wynne-Jones' first book was called Odd's End. He wrote it very quickly, in about five weeks! It was published in 1980 and won a big prize called the Seal First Novel Award.

Since then, Tim Wynne-Jones has written more than 20 books. These include fun picture books, exciting novels for children and young adults, and even books for grown-ups. His books have been reviewed by many people and have won several important awards.

Awards and Recognition

He has won two Boston Globe–Horn Book Awards from The Horn Book Magazine for his children's books published in the U.S. He has also won three Governor General's Literary Awards in Canada, which are very important Canadian awards. Other awards include three Canadian Library Association Prizes, the Arthur Ellis Award from the Crime Writers of Canada, and the Edgar Award for Young Adult Mystery from the Mystery Writers of America. These awards show how much his stories are loved and respected.
