Where is Misnebalam Located?
You can find Misnebalam by taking a turn off the Mérida-Progreso highway. It's about 15 kilometers (about 9 miles) down that road.
What Misnebalam Looks Like Now
The old buildings of the hacienda are falling apart. The weather in the area has made them wear down over time. Tree branches have grown everywhere, even blocking the entrances to the old houses. It looks like nature is taking over!
Misnebalam's Past
Misnebalam was very important during the time of the henequen boom. Henequen is a plant used to make rope. The hacienda even made its own special money, called tokens. These tokens are interesting to people who study old coins. Records show that Fidencio Gertrudis Márquez owned this hacienda.
Who Lives in Misnebalam?
According to a count done in 2005 by the INEGI, no one lives in Misnebalam. It's still an empty town today.
