Miss Mousie's Blind Date is a charming children's book. It was written by Canadian author Tim Beiser. The beautiful pictures were created by Canadian painter Rachel Berman. Tundra Books published this book in October 2012.
The Story of Miss Mousie
This book tells the story of Miss Mousie. She sees a handsome water rat named Matt laBatt at the deli. Miss Mousie really wants to get his attention. She wonders what to do: should she talk to him, flutter her eyelashes, or drop something?
But Matt laBatt says something mean to Miss Mousie. This happens right in front of Mole, who owns the deli. Feeling very embarrassed, Miss Mousie runs home to her burrow.
Soon after, she gets a mysterious dinner invitation. It's from someone she doesn't know! The invitation says: "We've never met (at least not yet), but dear, tonight at eight, Would you agree to dine with me? I'll be your mystery date." This invitation changes everything for Miss Mousie.
What Critics Thought
Many people who reviewed Miss Mousie's Blind Date loved it. They said it was a sweet story about mouse love. Miss Mousie is a fun and dramatic character. Kids often find her clumsy and a bit insecure, which makes her very funny.
The way the story is written is also special. It has smooth rhymes that make it easy and fun to read aloud. The story flows well and is not too complicated. This helps keep young readers interested from beginning to end.
One critic said that Tim Beiser's writing has "warmth, heart and a valuable lesson." They also praised Rachel Berman's illustrations. Her pictures, made with watercolor and gouache, reminded them of the famous artist Beatrix Potter. The illustrations perfectly match the elegant style of the story.
