Miss Van (born Vanessa Alice in 1973 in Toulouse, France) is a famous graffiti and street artist. She started painting on the streets of Toulouse when she was 18 years old, working with another artist named Mademoiselle Kat. Today, she is known around the world for her street art and fine art.
Miss Van's art often features special characters she calls poupées, which means dolls. Her artwork has been seen on streets all over the world. She also shows her paintings on canvases in art galleries in France, Europe, and the United States. Her work mixes street art with fine art, showing how both styles can be connected.
Miss Van lives in Barcelona, Spain. She has written and published several books with Drago and helped organize many art shows across Europe. She is one of the most well-known female street and graffiti artists globally. She is seen as a key artist in street art from the early 2000s.
Miss Van's Art Style
In her art, Miss Van usually draws women with soft, gentle eyes. These women show many different feelings and come in various shapes. Her art often uses animal masks, soft colors, and interesting clothing. Miss Van's work creates a fun, dream-like world.
Over time, the way she draws these women has changed. This shows how Miss Van has grown as an artist and as a person. As she has matured, she has also started to prefer showing her art in galleries more than on the street. She likes how galleries offer a quiet and personal space for people to experience her art.
Art Shows and Exhibitions
Between 2008 and 2016, Miss Van showed her artwork in private galleries. These shows took place in cities like Shanghai, London, Rome, Berlin, Paris, and Vienna. In North America, she had shows in Detroit, Santa Monica, Los Angeles, Montreal, Chicago, and New York.
Some of her notable shows include Still a Little Magic in San Francisco in 2008, and Cachetes Colorados in Mexico City in 2010. In 2016, she had a show called A Moment in Time at the Saatchi Gallery in London. That same year, Miss Van also showed her work at the Atmossphere Biennale in Moscow. There, she displayed a special rug made of woven wool, which was based on one of her original paintings.
Miss Van has continued to exhibit her work in various galleries and art fairs. For example, in 2017, she had a solo show called Flor de Piel in Barcelona. She also participated in group shows like Welcome to New Jersey in Jersey City and various art fairs around the world.
