Mitaka people facts for kids
The Mitaka (also called Mithaka) were an Aboriginal Australian people. They lived in the state of Queensland, Australia. Like many Aboriginal groups, they had a deep connection to their traditional lands.
Where the Mitaka Lived
The Mitaka people lived in a special area of Queensland. This area is known as the Channel Country. It is famous for its many rivers and channels that sometimes flood.
Their traditional lands were around Lake Machattie. This lake is an important part of their country. Researchers, like Norman Tindale, have estimated the Mitaka's land to be about 4,800 square miles (12,000 square kilometers).
Their territory stretched from Durrie in the south. It went north towards Glengyle. To the east, their land was near Monkira. The western edge was close to Kalidawarry. These places show the wide area where the Mitaka people lived and cared for their country.
