Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro (島袋 光年, Shimabukuro Mitsutoshi, born May 19, 1975) is a Japanese manga artist. He is famous for creating exciting manga series. His most well-known works include Seikimatsu Leader den Takeshi! and Toriko. Many people around the world enjoy his stories and drawings.

A Manga Artist's Journey
Early Life and First Success
Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro was born in Naha, Okinawa, Japan. He started his professional career as a manga artist in 1996. His first big series was Seikimatsu Leader den Takeshi!. This comedy manga was published in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1997 to 2002.
Seikimatsu Leader den Takeshi! was very popular. It even won him two important awards. He received the Akatsuka Award for best new manga writer. In 2001, he also won the Shogakukan Manga Award for children's manga.
Returning to Manga Creation
After some time, Shimabukuro returned to creating manga. In 2004, he started a sports comedy series called Ring. This manga was published in Super Jump magazine. It ran for three volumes.
He then briefly brought back Seikimatsu Leader den Takeshi! in Super Jump in 2005.
The Success of Toriko
In 2008, Shimabukuro returned to Weekly Shōnen Jump. He launched his new series, Toriko. This manga became one of the magazine's biggest hits. Over 25 million copies of Toriko manga books were sold.
Toriko was so popular that it was made into an anime TV show. Toei Animation created the anime series. It aired from 2011 to 2014. The Toriko manga finished in November 2016. Both the manga and anime were released in North America.
Working with Other Artists
Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro is good friends with Eiichiro Oda. Eiichiro Oda is the creator of the super popular manga One Piece. In 2011, these two artists worked together. They created a special one-shot story. It was a crossover between Toriko and One Piece. This story was called Taste of the Devil Fruit. Shimabukuro mostly came up with the story ideas. Oda helped by giving suggestions.
Recent Manga Projects
Shimabukuro has continued to create new stories. In April 2017, he published two one-shot comics. One was Warai no Ōji Penpenpen for Saikyō Jump. The other was Chingiri for Weekly Shōnen Jump.
Later in 2017, he contributed two more one-shots. These were Jijī 100% and Halftime. They appeared in Grand Jump magazine.
In April 2018, Shimabukuro released a one-shot called Build King. This story was also in Weekly Shonen Jump. In November 2020, Build King became a full series in the same magazine. Shimabukuro also shared that he started drawing his manga digitally. Build King finished in April 2021.
