Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro (島袋 光年, Shimabukuro Mitsutoshi, born May 19, 1975) is a Japanese manga artist, which means he creates manga. He is famous for his comedy series Seikimatsu Leader den Takeshi! and the action-adventure manga Toriko. His manga have sold millions of copies around the world.

Career as a Manga Artist
Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro was born in Naha, Okinawa, Japan. He started his career as a professional manga artist in 1996 in the popular magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump.
Early Success
His first big series was Seikimatsu Leader den Takeshi!, which ran from 1997 to 2002. This funny manga was a huge hit. It won him two important awards: the Akatsuka Award for being a great new manga writer and the Shogakukan Manga Award for children's manga in 2001.
In 2002, Shimabukuro faced some personal challenges and had to take a break from his work. Because of this, Seikimatsu Leader den Takeshi! was stopped. He returned to making manga in 2004.
The World of Toriko
In 2008, Shimabukuro came back to Weekly Shōnen Jump with a new series called Toriko. This manga became incredibly popular, selling over 25 million copies. It's about a "Gourmet Hunter" named Toriko who travels the world to find rare and delicious foods.
The success of Toriko led to an anime TV show made by Toei Animation, which aired from 2011 to 2014. The manga was also released in North America by Viz Media.
Shimabukuro is good friends with Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece. In 2011, they worked together on a special story that combined the worlds of Toriko and One Piece.
Recent Projects
After Toriko ended in 2016, Shimabukuro continued to create new stories. In 2017, he published several short manga called one-shots.
In 2020, he started a new series in Weekly Shōnen Jump called Build King. This series ended in 2021. During this time, Shimabukuro also started drawing his manga digitally instead of on paper.
