Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Weekly Shonen Jump is a very popular manga magazine from Japan. It's made by a company called Shueisha. People also call it Shonen Jump, Weekly Jump, or just Jump. The manga stories from this magazine are later collected into special books called Jump Comics.

Jump Magazines Around the World

While the Japanese magazine comes out every week, some versions in other countries are published once a month.

SHONEN JUMP in the USA

The Japanese company Shueisha worked with VIZ Media, LLC. (which used to be called Viz Communications, LLC.) to create a monthly version of Weekly Shonen Jump for English readers. The very first issue came out in 2003. It had a picture of Goku on the front cover!

BANZAI! in Germany

In Germany, the Weekly Jump magazine was printed as BANZAI!. A company called Carlsen Verlag made it. The first issue came out in 2001, and it stopped being printed in 2005. This magazine featured popular series like I"s, Shaman King, DNA2, Sand Land, Dr. Slump, and Hunter x Hunter. They even made special book collections for the manga called Best of BANZAI! and BANZAI! präsentiert (which means "BANZAI! presents").

Swedish Shonen Jump

A Swedish version of Shonen Jump was made by Bonnier Carlsen. It was only printed in 2007. This magazine included manga like Yu-Gi-Oh!, Naruto, and Shaman King. Later, Bleach was also added. The magazine sometimes had short manga stories, like Sand Land, and even taught readers how to create their own manga!

Norwegian Shonen Jump

The Norwegian version of Shonen Jump was created by Shibsted. It was printed from 2005 to 2007. This magazine featured series such as Rurouni Kenshin, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Shaman King. Special book labels were made for the manga, including En Bok Fra Shonen Jump (meaning "A Book From Shonen Jump") and Dragon Ball Ekstra (meaning "Dragon Ball Extra").
