About Moghegno

Moghegno has a long history. People first wrote about it in the year 1335. Back then, its name was spelled Mogeno. This shows that the village has been around for many centuries.

Later, the population went up and down. In 1850, there were 392 people. Then it dropped to 264 in 1900 and 205 in 1950. After that, the population started to grow steadily. In 1990, it was 275. By 2000, it reached 336, and in 2003, there were 376 people.

Joining a Bigger Community

However, in 2004, Moghegno joined a larger, nearby municipality. It became part of Maggia. This means Moghegno is now a village within the bigger Maggia municipality.
