Momax is a small town located in the state of Zacatecas, Mexico. It is the main town of the municipality of Momax.
A Look at Momax's History
We don't know exactly when the town of Momax was officially started. However, old documents from Mexico's "Archivo General de la Nacion" (General Archive of the Nation) give us some clues.
People believe that the area around Momax was first settled in 1591. A person named Don Luis de Velasco brought about 400 men, along with their families, from Tlaxcala. They moved to an area known as the "Chichimeca Zone."
Later, in 1592, Miguel Caldera took 40 families from this group to Colotlan, Jalisco. From those 40 families, he chose seven special families. These seven families were then moved to the place we now call Momax. This is how the town likely began to grow.
