Mona's Musical Journey

Mona Gustafsson has had a long and exciting career in music. She used to sing with a popular band called Leif Bloms. When that band stopped performing in 1995, Mona decided to start her own band in 1996. This new band was called Mona G:s orkester.

From Dansband to Country Music

Mona G:s orkester continued to play music until 2009. After that, Mona started a new chapter in her career. She began focusing on country music. Her talent was recognized when she was nominated for "Female Singer of the Year 2006" by SR P4. She was also nominated in the Får jag lov magazine's Guldklaven awards.

How Mona's Career Started

Mona Gustafsson began her musical journey at a very young age.

Early Days with Lill-Nickes

When Mona was just 15 years old, she joined a dansband from Halmstad called Lill-Nickes. This band started on May 1, 1972. Other members of the band included her father, Kurt Gustafsson, Sven-Arne Olofsson, and the band leader Dan Larsson. Their very first performance was in Värnamo on June 14, 1972.

A Talent Show Beginning

Mona's career actually began even earlier, in the spring of 1970. She participated in a talent show at Halmstad Folkets hus. This was her first step into the world of music. A few years later, she also helped start another dansband called Curt Jürgens.

Moving to Växjö and New Bands

In the early 1980s, Mona moved to Växjö. In 1981, she started touring and performing with the band Leif Bloms. When the original members of Leif Bloms retired in 1995, Mona took the opportunity to create her own band, Mona G:s orkester, in 1996.

Mona as a Songwriter

Mona Gustafsson is not only a singer but also a talented songwriter. She has written many songs for herself and for other famous artists.

Famous Songs and Awards

One of her most well-known songs is Dej ska jag älska all min tid. This song won the Hänts meloditävling competition in 1992 when she performed it with Leif Bloms. It was a special win because it was the first and only time in that competition's history that the winning song was both written and performed by the same person.

Writing for Other Artists

Mona has also written songs for other popular groups and singers. These include Thorleifs, Curt Haagers, Kikki Danielsson, and Sandins. A song she wrote called Så länge mina ögon ser was first recorded by Thorleifs in 1987. Later, Mona G:s orkester recorded it, and it was released as a solo song by Mona in 2007. Many of her songs have been recorded by other artists, showing how popular her writing is.

What Makes a "Mona Song"?

Songs written by Mona are often called "Mona songs." They are usually calm, ballad-style songs. Their lyrics are in Swedish and often talk about love, longing, and missing someone. Writing so many of her own songs is quite special in the dansband music style.

Celebrating 50 Years in Music

In the spring of 2020, Mona Gustafsson was supposed to celebrate her 50th anniversary as an artist. However, the celebration had to be canceled because of the Corona Pandemic.
