Mona Gustafsson: A Musical Journey
Starting Young
Mona Gustafsson began her music career when she was just 15 years old. In 1972, she joined a dansband called Lill-Nickes from her hometown, Halmstad. Her father, Kurt Gustafsson, was also a member of this band. Their first show was in Värnamo in June 1972. Before joining Lill-Nickes, Mona had already started performing at a talent show in Halmstad in 1970.
A few years later, she also helped start another dansband called Curt Jürgens.
Joining Leif Bloms and Starting Her Own Band
In the early 1980s, Mona moved to Växjö. In 1981, she started touring with the popular dansband Leif Bloms. When Leif Bloms stopped performing at the end of 1995, Mona decided to start her own dansband. In 1996, she formed Mona G:s orkester. This band continued until January 2009. After that, Mona began focusing more on country music.
Her Music and Songs
Mona Gustafsson is not only a singer but also a skilled songwriter. She has written many songs for herself and for other famous artists. One of her most well-known songs is Dej ska jag älska all min tid. This song won a competition called Hänts meloditävling in 1992, performed by Leif Bloms. It was special because Mona wrote and performed the winning song herself.
She has also written songs for other popular Swedish bands and singers, including Thorleifs, Curt Haagers, Kikki Danielsson, and Sandins. Many of her songs have been recorded by other artists.
What are "Mona Songs"?
Songs written by Mona Gustafsson, often called "Mona songs," are usually calm, ballad-like tunes. They often have lyrics in Swedish about love, longing, and missing someone. Writing original songs on a large scale is not very common in the dansband music style, which makes Mona's songwriting special.
Awards and Anniversaries
In 2006, Mona Gustafsson was nominated for "Female Singer of the Year" by SR P4 and in the Får jag lov magazine's Guldklaven voting. These are important awards in Swedish music.
In the spring of 2020, Mona was supposed to celebrate her 50th anniversary as an artist. However, the celebration had to be canceled because of the Corona Pandemic.

Mona Gustafsson has also had solo songs appear on the Svensktoppen chart, which is a popular Swedish music chart.
