Mona Zandi (born 20 October 1972 in Tehran) is a talented Iranian film director. She is well-known for directing and editing short films, documentaries, and feature films. Her movies often explore important social topics in Iranian culture. Mona Zandi also worked with the famous Iranian director Rakhshan Bani-E'temad.

Mona Zandi's Career in Film
Mona Zandi first studied Interior Design at Tehran University. After her studies, she started working in the film industry as an editor. She helped create several films, including Bull’s Horn (1995) and The Eight Thirty Train (2000).
Directing Her Own Films
Besides editing, Mona Zandi also directed her own short films and documentaries. Her first full-length movie, called On a Friday Afternoon, came out in 2006. This film marked a big step in her career as a director.
On a Friday Afternoon Film
On a Friday Afternoon was Mona Zandi's first feature film, released in 2006. It was filmed using 35mm color film. Many talented people worked on the movie, including Hussein Jafarian as the cinematographer and Sepideh Abdolvahab as the editor.
Story of the Film
The movie tells the story of a family in Tehran, Iran, and the challenges they face. The main characters are Sogand and her son, Omid, who have a difficult relationship. Omid struggles because his father is not present in his life. The arrival of Sogand’s sister, Banafshe, helps to reveal hidden family secrets. The film explores how families deal with their past and difficult situations.
Film Festival Screenings
On a Friday Afternoon was shown at many international film festivals. These included the Tiburon International Film Festival and the Rochelle International Film Festival in 2007. It was also featured at the Fajr International Film Festival in 2006 and the Thessaloniki International Film Festival in 2007.
Other Important Work
Mona Zandi also created a special book called You Were so Kind!. This book is a collection of letters and drawings made by children. These children were affected by the terrible 2003 Bam earthquake in Bam, Iran. The earthquake was one of the most devastating in Iran's history.
Awards and Recognitions
Mona Zandi has received awards for her work. In February 2006, she won the Crystal Simorgh Special Jury Prize for On a Friday Afternoon. This award was given at the 24th Fajr International Film Festival in Tehran, Iran. Later that year, in November 2006, her film also won the Silver Alexander Special Jury award at the 47th Thessaloniki International Film Festival.
