The Monachil River is a river in Spain, located in the province of Granada. It is a smaller river that flows into a larger one called the Genil River. The Monachil River gets its name from the town of Monachil, which it flows through.
The Monachil River
The Monachil River travels about 26.5 kilometers (around 16.5 miles) in length. It begins high up in the mountains.
Where Does the Monachil River Start?
The river starts at the peak of a mountain called Veleta. This mountain is very tall, reaching an altitude of 2,640 meters (about 8,661 feet). From this high point, the water begins its journey down the mountain.
Plants Along the River
The area around the Monachil River, especially above 750 meters (about 2,460 feet) in elevation, is mostly covered in grasslands and thick bushes. There are not many tall trees in these higher parts.
The bushes and shrubs form a dense thicket. You can find many different kinds of plants here. Some common types include Genista, Crataegus, Rosa (wild roses), Berberis, Lavandula (lavender), Salvia, Juniperus (junipers), Cistus, Ruscus, and Rosmarinus (rosemary). Many other smaller plants also grow among these shrubs.
