Monachil is a small town and municipality located in the province of Granada, in Spain. In 2018, about 7,826 people lived there. It is located about 8 kilometers (5 miles) away from the city of Granada. Monachil shares borders with several other towns, including Huétor Vega, Cenes de la Vega, and La Zubia.

The municipality of Monachil is made up of three main areas. Each area offers something different for residents and visitors.
Monachil Pueblo: The Old Village

In 1996, it held the Alpine World Ski Championships. Later, it hosted the 2015 Winter Universiade and the FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboarding World Championships 2017. This makes Pradollano a popular spot for winter sports.

The name Monachil has an interesting history. It comes from the Arabic word "منستير" (monastir). This Arabic word actually has Greek roots. It means "monastery." This suggests that there might have been a monastery in the area a long time ago.
