The Monastery of the Corpus Christi is a special building in Llutxent, a town in the Valencia region of Spain. This old monastery started as a small chapel in the 1200s. It was later rebuilt and made bigger in the 1700s.

The monastery has parts built in different time periods, with the main construction beginning in the 1300s. Its history is connected to a famous event called the Miracle of the Corporals, which people believe happened here in the 1200s.

Exploring the Monastery

The monastery is built around a central open area called a cloister. This cloister has a square shape and two levels. The lower level has arches supported by pillars. These pillars have special decorations that show symbols related to the Eucharist, which is a Christian ceremony.

The Church of Corpus Christi

The main church of the monastery, called the Church of Corpus Christi, is on the north side of the cloister. It has one long main room, called a nave, which is divided into four sections. At the front of the church, there is a high choir area. The ceilings are covered with beautiful arched roofs called vaults.

Chapels and Other Rooms

On one side of the church, there are two extra chapels that were added in the 1700s. One is called the Chapel of the Holy Face. The other is the Communion Chapel, which has a cross shape and a dome on top. The church walls are made of strong stone and brick.

Around the eastern side of the monastery, there is a service courtyard. This area has different rooms that were used to help the monastery run smoothly every day.
