Monegaw Springs, Missouri facts for kids
Monegaw Springs is a small, unincorporated community located in St. Clair County, Missouri, in the United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town would.
History
The area known as Monegaw Springs got its name from a special natural spring nearby. This spring has water that contains different minerals.
A post office was opened in Monegaw Springs in 1888. It helped people send and receive mail for many years until it closed down in 1953.
The spring, and later the community, were not always called Monegaw. At first, the spring was known as "Stinking Waters." However, it was later renamed "Monegaw." This new name was given to honor Monegaw, who was an important leader of the Osage Nation, a Native American tribe. The name "Monegaw" means "Owner of Much Money," which shows how respected and important he was.
