What is Money in the Bank?
The "Money in the Bank" event is famous for its special ladder matches. In these matches, several wrestlers compete to climb a ladder and grab a briefcase hanging above the ring. This briefcase holds a contract.
The contract gives the winner a chance to challenge for a championship title at any time they want. They can "cash in" their contract for up to a year after winning it. This makes the matches very exciting!
The Exciting Ladder Matches
At Money in the Bank 2012, there were two main ladder matches. Each one offered a contract for a different championship.
World Heavyweight Championship Contract Match
This match was for a contract to challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship. Eight wrestlers fought hard to win it. These included Dolph Ziggler, Damien Sandow, Tyson Kidd, Christian, Santino Marella, Tensai, Cody Rhodes, and Sin Cara. In the end, Dolph Ziggler won the briefcase.
WWE Championship Contract Match
The second ladder match was for a contract to challenge for the WWE Championship. Five big stars competed in this one: John Cena, Kane, Chris Jericho, Big Show, and The Miz. It was a tough fight, but John Cena managed to grab the briefcase. This was a big moment because it meant he could challenge the WWE Champion whenever he chose.
Championship Showdowns
Besides the ladder matches, there were also important championship matches at the event.
World Heavyweight Championship Match
The World Heavyweight Championship was defended by Sheamus. He faced Alberto Del Rio in a singles match. Sheamus was the champion (c) going into the match, and he successfully kept his title.
WWE Championship Match
The WWE Championship was on the line in a special "No Disqualification" match. This meant there were no rules, and anything was allowed! The champion, CM Punk (c), defended his title against Daniel Bryan. A special guest referee, AJ, was in charge of this exciting match. CM Punk won and remained the champion.
