Monica Azuba Ntege is a talented Ugandan engineer and politician. An engineer designs and builds things, while a politician helps run the country. She used to be the important Minister of Works and Transport in Uganda's government, called the Cabinet. She started this job on June 6, 2016. Later, she was replaced on December 14, 2019.

Early Life and Education

Monica Azuba was born around 1954 in the Busoga sub-region. This area is in the Eastern Region of Uganda.

School and University

She went to Gayaza High School for her O-Level and A-Level studies. She finished school there in 1973. After that, she joined Makerere University in 1974. She worked hard and graduated in 1978. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree. This means she learned how to design and build things like roads and bridges.

Her Career Journey

After finishing university in 1978, Monica Azuba Ntege started working. Her first job was at Uganda Commercial Bank.

Moving Up in Banking

In 2002, a new bank, Standard Bank of South Africa, bought Uganda Commercial Bank. Monica stayed with the company. She kept working there and moved up in her career. She became the Facilities Manager at Stanbic Bank Uganda Limited. This role means she was in charge of managing the bank's buildings and services.

Helping with Roads

Since June 2014, she has also been a member of the board for the Uganda National Roads Authority. This group helps manage all the roads in Uganda. On June 6, 2016, she was given a very important job. She was appointed the Minister of Works and Transport.

As Minister of Works and Transport

When Monica Azuba Ntege became the Minister of Works and Transport, she had a big task. One of her first jobs was to look into bringing back Uganda Airlines. This was Uganda's national airline.

Bringing Back the National Airline

The airline had stopped flying in 2001. It was thought that it was not making enough money. But in 2013, the government decided to restart the airline. They wanted more tourists to visit Uganda. They also needed to handle more people and goods traveling to the country. This was important as Uganda's new petrochemical industry started to grow.

Working Together for Uganda Airlines

As minister, Monica led meetings with many important groups. These included people from the Ministry of Works and Transport and the Uganda Development Corporation. Also involved were the Civil Aviation Authority of Uganda and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives. The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development also helped. They all worked together to make plans. These plans were then sent to the Cabinet for their final approval.

Personal Life

Monica Azuba Ntege is married. She is also a very good golfer. She has won many golf tournaments in Uganda and in the region. In the past, she helped manage a golf competition for ladies called the All Africa Challenge Trophy.
