Dame Monica Jessie Dacon is an important figure from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. She was born on June 4, 1934. She is known for her work as a schoolteacher, an educator, and a politician. She was also the wife of St. Clair Dacon, who was a member of parliament.

Early Life and Education
Monica Dacon attended The Girls' High School. There, she successfully completed both the Cambridge School Certificate and the Cambridge Higher School Certificate exams. These certificates showed she had a strong education.
A Career in Teaching
In 1952, Monica Dacon began her teaching career. She taught at her old school, The Girls' High School, and also at the Boys’ Grammar School. After eleven years, she taught in two schools in Trinidad and Tobago. She then returned to St. Vincent in 1966 to teach at Bishop's College in Kingstown.
She briefly served as the acting Principal of Bishop's College. After this, she went back to The Girls' High School. She stayed there for almost fifteen years. Monica Dacon continued to study while teaching. In 1980, she earned her St. Vincent Teachers' College Certificate. Two years later, she received her Bachelor of Education degree from the University of the West Indies. When she returned to St. Vincent, she started teaching at a higher level. She became a lecturer at the St. Vincent Teachers' Training College.
Public Service and Leadership
In 2001, Monica Dacon was appointed Deputy Governor General. This happened when Sir Charles Antrobus was the Governor General. After Sir Charles Antrobus passed away, she became the acting Governor-General of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. She held this important role until Dr. Frederick Ballantyne was appointed Governor General on June 2, 2002.
Recognition and Honours
For her dedicated service, Monica Dacon received a special honour. In 2010, she was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE). This is a very high honour given by the British Crown.
