Dame Monica Jessie Dacon, born on June 4, 1934, is an important figure from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. She was a dedicated schoolteacher and educator for many years. Later, she became a politician. She was married to St. Clair Dacon, who was also a parliament member.

Early Life and Education
Monica Jessie Dacon, whose maiden name was Sheen, grew up in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. She attended The Girls' High School. There, she successfully earned both the Cambridge School Certificate and the Cambridge Higher School Certificate. These were important exams for students at that time.
A Career in Teaching
In 1952, Monica Dacon began her teaching career. She started at her old school, The Girls' High School. She also taught at the Boys’ Grammar School.
Teaching in Trinidad and Tobago
After some time, she moved to Trinidad and Tobago. She taught in two schools there. This experience helped her grow as an educator.
Returning to Saint Vincent
In 1966, Monica Dacon returned to Saint Vincent. She started teaching at Bishop's College in Kingstown. For a few months, she even served as the acting Principal of Bishop's College.
Long Service at Girls' High School
She then went back to The Girls' High School. She stayed there for almost fifteen years. During this time, she continued to improve her own education.
Further Studies
In 1980, she earned the St. Vincent Teachers' College Certificate. Two years later, in 1982, she completed her Bachelor of Education degree. She earned this degree from the University of the West Indies.
Lecturer at Teachers' College
After finishing her university studies, she moved from teaching in secondary schools. She became a lecturer at the St. Vincent Teachers' Training College. Here, she helped train new teachers.
Public Service and Leadership
Monica Dacon's career took a new turn when she entered public service. She was appointed to a very important role.
Deputy Governor General
In 2001, she became the Deputy Governor General. At that time, Sir Charles Antrobus was the Governor General. Her role was to assist him.
Acting Governor General
After Sir Charles Antrobus passed away, Monica Dacon stepped into a higher role. She became the acting Governor-General of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. She held this position from June 3, 2002, until June 22, 2002. She served until Dr. Frederick Ballantyne was appointed as the new Governor General.
Special Recognition
In 2010, Monica Dacon received a very special honor. She was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE). This award is given to people who have made great contributions. It is a high honor from the British Empire.
