Mont-ral (Catalan pronunciation: [munˈral]) is a small town in Catalonia, Spain. It is located in the Tarragona province, within an area called Alt Camp. Mont-ral is known for being nestled among the beautiful Prades Mountains.
Exploring Mont-ral
Mont-ral is a type of local government area known as a municipality. It is part of a larger region called a comarca, which is like a county. The town itself sits at an elevation of 888 meters (about 2,913 feet) above sea level. This high location gives it great views of the surrounding mountains.
A Look Back in Time
Mont-ral has a long history. Before the year 1716, it was part of an older administrative area called the Montblanc Vegueria. A Vegueria was a way of dividing land for government purposes, similar to a district today. After 1716, Mont-ral became part of the Tarragona Corregiment. This was another type of administrative division used in Spain.
In the late 1800s, Mont-ral was much larger. It had over 1,000 people living there. However, over time, many people moved away. Today, the population is much smaller, with about 80% fewer residents than it had back then.
