Monte Guilarte, also known as Monte del Guaraguao, is a tall mountain in Puerto Rico. It is the fifth-highest peak on the island. This mountain stands about 1,199 meters (3,934 feet) above sea level. You can find it in the Cordillera Central mountain range. Monte Guilarte is located in the town of Adjuntas.
The Name of Monte Guilarte
Monte Guilarte gets its name from an important historical figure. He was Captain Juan Guilarte de Salazar. He was a Spanish explorer and one of the first European settlers in Puerto Rico. In 1513, Captain Guilarte de Salazar led a group of 50 men. They had a battle against 600 Taíno people in the southwest part of the island.
Guilarte State Forest
The mountain and the land around it are part of the Guilarte State Forest. This forest is a protected area. It is located in a place called Guilarte, which is also in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico. The forest is a great place to explore nature.
