Montortal facts for kids
Montortal is a small village located near l'Alcúdia in the province of Valencia, Spain. It's about two kilometers south of the main town center. Long ago, a noble family known as the Marquesses of Montortal owned this area.
Montortal is a quiet village with about 100 people living there. It's surrounded by many farms growing oranges and persimmons. Even though it's a small place, Montortal is well-known for how different groups of people live together peacefully. The village is now starting to grow again, and some of its older buildings are being fixed up.
It's located about 25 kilometers (15 miles) from the beautiful beaches of the Costa del Azahar. The big city of Valencia is also not far, about 35 kilometers (22 miles) away.
Montortal is special because it has stayed mostly the same over the years. New building projects haven't changed it much. This is mainly because many parts of the village are on land where new construction isn't allowed. This makes it very hard to get permission to build new homes or businesses.
Discovering Montortal
Montortal has an old church that was built around 1716. It is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The church is now managed by a larger church in l'Alcúdia, which took over in 1902. Because of this, church services are no longer held in the village.
